San Diego pest control

We are California's top experts in wildlife and raccoon control. We are not a typical San Diego raccoon control or pest control company. We don't treat wild animals like insects, because they are not! You can't just use poison to get rid of them. You also can't just set a few traps on the ground and call it good. Each situation is unique. And remember, if you have raccoons living in your house, it is almost certainly a female with a litter of young inside. These juveniles must be removed by hand, or they will starve to death and die. And after they are gone, the entry holes into the house must be sealed with professional repairs. Unlike most San Diego pest control, we focus on complete and permanent solutions, by following these steps:

  • Inspect the entire house, ground to roof, and the attic
  • Seal shut all entry areas with professional grade steel
  • If in attic, we remove the baby raccoons by hand
  • Technical and human raccoon trapping appropriate to situation
  • When necessary, we clean raccoon droppings and replace insulation

San Diego Raccoon Control Tip: What Diseases Are Commonly Found in Squirrels?
You may think of a squirrel is nothing more than a pesky little animal, but these animals can pose a risk to you and your family. They are the carriers of a number of diseases and parasites, any one of which could make you, a loved one, or your pet sick. This is why it is important to know a little bit about the different diseases squirrels carry, so you can better protect yourself and be aware.

Rabies
This is a very scary disease and with good reason. There is no cure for rabies, so a person who is bitten or scratched by a squirrel that has rabies is in serious trouble if not treated right away. The dangerous part about squirrels is that 12% carry the disease. That means one out of every eight is likely to have the virus, so staying away from a squirrel is just good advice.

Should you be bitten or scratched by a squirrel, you need to see a doctor right away. There is no reason to put yourself at risk, as you only have 24 hours to be treated before the effects of the illness become terminal.

The Feces of a Squirrel
While there are not a lot of diseases that you can contract from a squirrel by coming in contact with it, where you really have to worry is from its feces. The droppings of these critters can be quite dangerous, and all it takes is for you to touch, step, or even breathe in the particles to become sick.

Illnesses that come from a squirrel feces include salmonella and leptospirosis. Leptospirosis is a bacteria-based disease that presents itself with flu-like symptoms initially. You are also likely to get severe headaches. If not treated right away, the symptoms can get quite serious, even leading to death. In severe cases, internal bleeding and heart failure will occur.

When we think of salmonella, we often relate this to food poisoning, but it can also be contracted through contact with a squirrel's feces. It presents itself with a loss of appetite, severe vomiting, and severe abdominal pains. If not treated right away, this will lead to death as well, especially in those who are very young and very old.

Distemper
One disease you can get from contact with the squirrel is distemper. This is frequently noticeable in a squirrel by a discharge around its eyes. If you should come in contact with it, the disease is transmitted through your skin and can become a real issue.

If you are in an area where squirrels are common, it is very difficult to avoid them. They are literally everywhere. However, that does not mean you should be taking risks. Avoid coming in direct contact with the squirrel, and wash your hands immediately after any encounter where you may have come in contact with squirrel feces. This is a lifesaving thing to do, ensuring that one of these little critters will not cause you terminal pain.
